FAQ #01

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can have Reflexology?
The simple answer is anyone; men, women and children can benefit. Babies with colic have been shown to benefit from Reflexology by some research carried out in Denmark.
Pregnant women can also have Reflexology. The treatment of women with unstable pregnancies however is not advisable.
Anyone with ongoing deep vein thrombosis or any form of blood clot could not be treated.

I am well so how can it help me?
Reflexology is believed to be a preventative form of therapy, helping you to retain your feeling of wellness.
It is thought that approximately 70% of all illnesses are linked to stress so removal of some of the stresses in life can be beneficial to good health.

What sort of problems might it help?
Reflexology can only claim to treat for stress and relaxation however many people find that lots of illnesses are aided by Reflexology. Check out my testimonials page for some of the areas that my treatments have helped.
It is particularly helpful with the ‘sort of feeling under the weather’ type problem with lots of minor issues not big enough to take to the Doctor, minor backache plus headache plus not sleeping with poor concentration, that sort of problem.
Reflexology is believed to re-balance the systems of the body so they work in harmony with each other. It works on an individual basis, with everyone reacting differently to the treatment.

Does it hurt?
Reflexology treatments may be firm or light. I am from the firm school of treatment and my treatments may be uncomfortable at times. The Reflexology imbalances may be present for several reasons, for example your present medical health causing an energy blockage. By release of the energy block the ‘imbalance’ may be helped by the healing energy being able to flow freely. This release may be uncomfortable during the application of pressure however this is under the clients control and the treatment can be lightened if it is too uncomfortable. Many of my clients say it’s a ‘feeling of good ache, like its doing some good’

I have sub-fertility issues and have heard that Reflexology might just help – is this the case?
While to date there is no scientific evidence to support this, there is a growing band of women who believe they now have children due to have had Reflexology. Again see my testimonials page. Often these women have tried for years to become pregnant and may have even tried other types of fertility treatment without success. Then they try Reflexology, and after a course of treatment the body begins to work harmoniously and a pregnancy may result.

Is there any scientific evidence that it works?
Research into complementary therapies has been slow but there are more studies ongoing now than ever before. Reflexology has had very few studies carried out but of those done, there have been some positive ones.

  • In the area of cancer care, Reflexology is considered a useful adjunct to medical treatment and is often found on offer in cancer care units.
  • In Denmark it has been shown that babies are relieved of their colic symptoms by Reflexology.
  • A study has been carried out on Multiple Sclerosis patients and it showed that Reflexology positively helped with the muscle spasms while not resulting in muscle weakness unlike the conventional drug treatment.
  • A study was carried out as long ago as 1993 that showed a positive effect of Reflexology on PMS.

More scientific research is on going and I will update this area as soon as I become aware of the data.
Anecdotal evidence is everywhere – just see my testimonials page!
